HISTORY

The Developmental & Disability Service was formed in 1961 as United Cerebral Palsy of Lebanon County (UCPLC). The organization provided services to the disabled and never really limited its services to those with Cerebral Palsy. UCPLC provided services to

all people with learning and physical disabilities. UCPLC rented its office spaces at various locations throughout Lebanon until 1994 when it moved into its own facility at the Alley Family Center, 12th & Walnut Street, Lebanon. The board of directors saw that a significant amount of money was being paid for national dues to UCP. They felt the money could be better used to provide services to the people of Lebanon County. Based on this situation, the board disassociated with the national UCP organization and founded the Developmental and Disability Services of Lebanon Valley (DDS). The core service area of DDS would be Lebanon County. The organization continued to evolve and in 1996 formed the DDS Foundation to raise money to support DDS activities.
