Since 1963, the Elks Lodges of Pennsylvania have directed and supported a home service program for persons with cerebral palsy and other developmental disabilities. The goal was simple: to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities.

In the familiarity of their own home, a registered nurse visits the client to assess the situation and family needs, becoming the link between client and community resources.
The Elks Home Service Nurse:

* Advises family members on "home care" issues
* Acts as a liaison between the client and medical community
* Contacts community agencies for related services
* Counsels clients and families
* Assists clients in gaining access to appropriate medical, social, recreational and educational programs
