Two years ago, DDS introduced the Summer Stars Day Camp to help children of all abilities have a positive camp experience. Our goal is for each child to gain a better appreciation of self and to experience greater personal independence within a social dynamic.
Through the day camp, children explore new talents while developing social and recreational skills in a fun non-threatening environment. The camp is designed as an integrated camp in which children of all abilities are welcome to attend. In addition, the “Buddy Program” provides more integration and opportunities for campers to develop partnerships with local high school students and adult volunteers.
Since the camp is designed for children with special needs, DDS has made accommodations for children with physical and/or intellectual challenges: Accommodations may include special transportation, assistance with activities of daily living and administration of medication by an on site LPN. The Camp Coordinator and Camp Assistant are also First Aide and Safety Certified.
