Mission: To help children of all abilities explore new talents while developing social and recreational skills in a fun non-threatening environment.

Vision: For each child to gain a better appreciation of self and to experience greater personal independence.

About Summer Stars:

The camp is administered by Developmental & Disability Services of Lebanon Valley.

A Camp Coordinator and Camp Aide oversee the day camp program.

DDS contracts a nurse to assist with activities of daily living, administering medications and to assist as needed.

While DDS will strive to accommodate the special needs of campers, there may be some requests that we are unable to fulfill.

DDS uses a “Buddy” system in which campers’ partner with a high school student or adult volunteer. Buddies engage campers in activities and create an inclusive environment for campers.

Planned activities are centered on a theme and are designed to develop communication skills and team building techniques.

Each week includes fieldtrips to local attractions and/or businesses.

2010 Summer Stars Day Camp

August 2-6: Adventure Camp
Campers will explore a variety of activities, including underwater adventure, flying and space exploration. Will include 2 fieldtrips.
Cost $125 School Age Children Register by 7/19/10

Animal Visits

August 9-13: Animal Theme Camp
Campers will participate in activities that include animal visits and themes. Plans are underway to visit the Wolf Sanctuary and Middlecreek Wildlife Project.
Cost $125 School Age Children Register by 7/26/10

August 16-20: Olympic Theme Camp
Throughout the week, campers will hold their own version of Olympic Games, ceremonies and activities. Plans are being made to visit the Reading Museum.
Cost $125 School Age Children Register by 8/2/10
